The short answer
Find the fridge or freezer’s compatible annual kWh and multiply it by your own tariff. Capacity and noise are separate label information. The dollar estimate on a US EnergyGuide label is not a kWh input, and an annual consumption figure should not be multiplied by daily running hours again.
Find the annual energy figure
The EU household refrigeration label shows annual consumption in kWh, alongside an efficiency class, compartment volumes and noise information. Annual kWh is the input needed for a tariff-based running-cost estimate.
On a US EnergyGuide label, identify the annual electricity figure and the assumptions behind the printed cost. A dollar estimate printed on a label is not the same input as kWh.
Convert energy into cost
Suppose an illustrative fridge label gives 210 kWh per year. At an entered tariff of €0.30 per kWh, annual electricity cost is:
210 × €0.30 = €63.00
The calculator’s monthly average is €63 ÷ 12 = €5.25. A daily average across 365 days is about €0.17. These averages divide the annual estimate; they do not say that every day or month has identical consumption.
If your tariff is €0.40 rather than €0.30, the same figure gives €84.00 per year. The appliance has not changed; the price assumption has.
Capacity affects whether the comparison is useful
Look at chilled and frozen storage separately. Two appliances can offer different proportions of each. A smaller unit that cannot hold what your household needs may leave you running a second appliance, so the household comparison would need both.
For example, comparing a 210 kWh fridge with a 260 kWh alternative gives a 50 kWh annual difference. At €0.30, that is €15 per year. Check that the alternatives actually meet the same storage need before using the difference in a buying decision.
Keep the source basis intact
Do not turn annual kWh into a per-cycle figure by inventing a compressor cycle count. Equally, rated watts alone do not establish annual use for a fridge that switches its compressor on and off.
Use the fridge running-cost calculator. If you are choosing between new models, compare purchase options. If you are replacing a working fridge, compare keeping and replacing.
